large_photo[front-page]This loving space is here just for you! The Phoenix Rising Collective (PRC) is a non-profit self-esteem education organization that inspires and empowers personal growth and change in the lives of Black women and girls through self-development workshops, holistic health and wellness events, and life coaching.

We are dedicated to supporting Black women and girls who are on a quest to build and sustain healthy self-esteem so that self-love continues to blossom, and their true purpose unfolds.

We wholeheartedly believe that the most empowering way to provide these services is to connect to the mind, body, and soul. So, thank you for joining the Collective.

Why Phoenix?

We lovingly call you Phoenix because you’re resilient and courageous like the beautiful firebird. You are not defined by your challenges; you learn and rise from them, renewed.

So, let’s explore what the PRC has to offer by looking at our three dynamic, interactive areas: Phoenix Power, Phoenix Fire, and Phoenix Shine. And speaking of Phoenix Shine (our inspiring and spirit-affirming blog), take a look at our latest posts and stories (below) that celebrate Black women and girls’ inspirational lives.

balancing_act[KaNeeshaOCT1]The Balancing Act: 7 Tips for Creating the “Me-Time” You Deserve

by KaNeesha Allen [Motherhood Empowerment]

Like hunger or thirst, the instinct for balance is built into the human body.” These words spoken by Deepak Chopra express the very essence of what I strive to manifest each day.

Establishing and maintaining a balanced lifestyle is an extremely prevalent theme in my life and should be in all our lives if we choose to commit to honoring its significance.

As mothers we often get so overwhelmed with responsibilities and expectations involving external variables that we tend to neglect the single most important factor of the equation – ourselves.

Read KaNeesha’s seven useful tips for creating the perfect Goddess Brew of Me-Time.

8 Life Lessons Our Pets Teach Us about Happiness, Joy, and Living in the Moment

by Aisha Upton + Simone Savannah [Life + Style]

You wouldn’t think that we’d have time to take care of pets with all the shopping, studying, juicing, and diddling. Well, we do! This month, we’d like to share a little about our dear pets and how they’ve impacted our lives.

Napoleon is a five-year old, 26-pound, Cockapoo (Cocker Spaniel/Poodle Mix). Some of Napoleon’s favorite activities include playing tug with his toys, barking at other dogs at the dog park, and traveling. He has a fairly good temperament and loves interacting with people. His most recent accomplishments include flying across the country, learning to roll over, and running through a dog tunnel.

Aisha + Simone share how their pets have helped them navigate some of life’s rough spots and appreciate life’s sweet spots, too.

KaNeesha_Blog_Post[Poster]Life Made Easier for Mom: Healthy, Yummy, Kid-Friendly Recipes and Food Tips for Back to School

by KaNeesha Allen [Motherhood Empowerment]

“Excuse me, where are the loose leaf, wide-lined paper fillers? Oh, I also need a Spiderman lunch bag with the matching thermos. Make sure both have the new Spiderman character. Tobey McGuire is so five years ago,” I explained to the young sales associate during my back-to-school shopping escapade at Target. If any of you mothers are like me, you have mixed emotions about a new school year dawning for yourself and your kids. The excitement and anticipation of your child entering a new grade, meeting new friends, interacting with a new teacher, and of course learning an abundance of new material may have you grinning from ear to ear.

Take a look at KaNeesha’s quick, easy, and healthy food tips and recipes that moms can add to the daily back-to-school routine. It’s all about maintaining balance, and these are definitely time savers that help!

Loran_LYFF[posteer]Love Yourself First! Friday - Phoenix Feature: Lorna

Loving myself means taking care of me, doing the things I like to do, and being with people I am happy to be with (who can stimulate me and vice versa). For example, I like my beauty treatments (massages, pedicures, etc). Beauty treatments represent short moments that I have with me. Loving myself means having dedication to ME because I have very little time.

I run a tourist business in Tuscany outside of Florence, Italy. This tourist business is considered a resort, and running it means attending to guests, attending to the maintenance of the apartments (i.e. cleaning, interior design, etc), organizing weddings and various events, and being on call practically 24 hours a day.

Read more about Lorna’s self-care practices here.

natasha_LYFF[poster]Love Yourself First! Friday - Phoenix Feature: Natasha

Like so many women, loving myself first has been a challenge. Women, in particular, are socialized to care for and assume responsibility for others in ways that can be detrimental to wholly loving and caring for ourselves. We’re conditioned to be “givers.” This isn’t a bad thing. It’s a wonderful quality but women should also be encouraged to be givers to ourselves as well. At 33 years old, I am finally learning this lesson. I have finally heeded the advice of my husband, mother, and friends. I now take time to nurture myself through writing, performance, and other creative pursuits.

Natasha shares her experiences making time for and giving to herself. Read more about her self-love journey here.

Shirley_LYFF_collageIt’s Love Yourself First! A Mother’s Day Tribute

It’s Love Yourself First! A Tribute to Mothers. Usually we celebrate our self-love stories on Friday; however, because we’re honoring our mothers we’re doing things a little differently by sharing our first story on Mother’s Day. Since May is their special month (although every day of every month should be a celebration of motherhood), we’re dedicating LYF to them.

The first self-love story is from Shirley, mother of the Phoenix Rising Collective’s founder, Ayanna. She shares how she learned to move forward after several physical and emotional challenges in her life.
